The Schotten & Hansen collection for The Hudson Company offers responsibly harvested wood of peerless quality through our new partnership with this venerable German flooring company.
Using nothing but natural materials, Schotten & Hansen finishes each piece of wood individually, filling in knots by hand, and applying subtle pigments, minerals, and beeswax.
The result is a pristine wood floor that evokes old-world European craftsmanship and a reverence for nature.
We produced this short film about our new partnership which will introduce you to Torben Hansen, the company's founder, and take you inside both company's facilities for a glimpse of the craftsmanship that brings these floors to life.
The Upstate Collection is the latest addition to our Pre-Finished offering.
This collection compliments our luxury products, and shares many of their most desirable features, including long lengths and hand-finishing.
The wood in this new collection is character grade, with visible knots and natural idiosyncrasies that make each piece of wood unique.
You won't find wood that's perfectly uniform in this collection, but you will find vibrant color, and the beautiful natural patterns that give hardwood floors their trademark rustic sensibility.
At the Hudson Company, we follow the National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA / NOFMA) guidelines for grading wood, which means we can ensure that we're supplying both the highest quality wood available, and the most appropriate kind of lumber for each project.
Every piece of Hudson Company wood is carefully inspected and categorized to meet or surpass industry standards.
Lumber grading is determined by how much natural variation exists within each piece of wood.
Like the unexpected quirks that give an historic house its charm, wood that has a great deal of natural variation is known as "character grade."
Thank you for selecting a prefinished floor from The Hudson Company.
Your new floors are an investment in quality craftsmanship, and careful maintenance will help preserve their natural beauty in the years to come.
The ideal humidity range for wood floors is between 35-50%, at a temperature of about 60-75 degrees Fahrenheit.
Interior heating during the winter months and high humidity in the summer can both cause wood to contract, expand, and possibly split.
Aim to keep your interior space within these temperature and relative humidity ranges throughout the year to protect your wood floors.
