When it comes to industrial flooring systems, it is important to make sure your floor is durable enough to withstand the expected exposures, whether it be highly corrosive solutions and cleaners, . Direct bond brick floors are installed with the mortar being trowel applied to two sides of the brick and then the brick are set into a nominal 1/8 bed of freshly spread epoxy adhesive.

National Acid-Proofing, Inc. was founded in 1952 by Ralph T. Histed to provide quality solutions to demanding corrosive conditions found in industrial environments.
Since that time we have come to specialize in corrosion resistant masonry as it is found in the various food and chemical manufacturing-processing industries.
Still family owned and managed by the fourth & fifth generations, we operate from our headquarters in suburban Chicago with 4 to 6 crews of union craftsmen performing installation and repairs throughout most of the continental United States and Caribbean basin.
Scott is the son of former President Ralph T. Histed.
Scott's commitment to the industry and approach to customer service is matched by no other.
His efforts over the last 30 years have provided a time tested product to thousands of happy clients all over the country.
Though Scott is now semi-retired, he still maintains his presence behind the scenes helping his son Jim manage the family business.
With Jim on board full time at National Acid Proofing, he marks the forth generation of this family owned business.
When it comes to industrial flooring systems, it is important to make sure your floor is durable enough to withstand the expected exposures, whether it be highly corrosive solutions and cleaners, heavy forklift traffic, or extreme temperatures.
A properly designed and installed industrial floor can be expected to last decades assuming proper maintenance.
National Acid-Proofing has the ability to design and install a variety of brick and tile flooring systems and have done so all over the country.
When designing a floor for acid brick service, it is very important to incorporate sufficient pitch for drainage into the supporting concrete sub-floor.
A floor is not designed to store corrosive liquids and it needs to drain completely.
Since acid brick floors are installed at a constant thickness, and cannot be "built up" to provide pitch for drainage, the necessary slope must be built into the supporting layer.
An existing floor area with incorrect or insufficient pitch for drainage can be modified to receive an acid brick floor.
The cure of the properly finished concrete slab is another important factor that contributes to a successful floor installation.
There is a strong temptation to rush the cure of a new concrete slab to enable brick floor installation to begin sooner.
The time saved by reducing the necessary cure time will directly and negatively affect the longevity of the acid brick floor.
As concrete cures, it gains strength as the slab completes it's hydration process.
Excess water evaporates by migrating out of the concrete during this process.
